✧ RUBICE

✦ VIDEO/UI/UX

Project Overview:

Rubice is a speculative fiction project that takes place in 2042 in District 1 of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The project utilises UI/UX to envision a hotel advertisement website of a futuristic city apartment complex that takes on the Rubik’s cube concept with reference to metabolism architecture. The project also looks at the overarching theme of ‘accelerationism’ in an anti-capitalist sense that is masked by the techno-utopian dimensions.

Originally I felt like the format of a website would suit the concept best. With a website I would be able to delve into aspects of the project’s rationale, the types of suites that would be accommodated at the complex and a sneak peak about the sort of events that take place.

however came to realise in the process that a promotional website as such would be unable to contain more dystopian and less favourable information that perhaps wouldn’t persuade the guests to accommodate there (or it would have to be worded in a vague way that may have my project sound more misleading)

Another way to present this would be 3d modelling, after seeing a lot of peers take on this concept I am inspired to learn more about 3d modelling over my summer break.

While I do think this was an interesting project, I do think the pieces could have come together more cleanly to help me build a tighter narrative.

A concept/promotional video was also created through the amalgamation of stock footage and clips from Cyberpunk 2077 and Star Citizen that would help create a more whole visualisation of what the complex had to offer. The concept video has also been coupled with an uplifting trance track that makes the piece seem more inviting and remains constant as the end of the video takes a more ominous turn. Keyboard typing sounds have also been implemented to give the video more depth.
